Founded by board-certified psychiatrist Peter Kass, M.D., Aspen Grove offers in-person and virtual psychiatry, talk therapy, ketamine-assisted therapy, and lifestyle support for adults and adolescents in San Diego.

Rooted in the philosophy that mental health is inseparable from your physical health and daily routines, our services are deeply collaborative and crafted for you and you alone.

Talk therapy

Individual talk therapy provides a space for you to explore past experiences, change disruptive patterns of behavior, develop new coping methods, and better understand yourself.

For those experiencing anxiety, trauma, depression, or relationship challenges, talk therapy can be highly supportive. We offer talk therapy for both patients interested in pursuing medications and those who aren’t.

  • Psychodynamic therapy
  • Parts work
  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
  • Mindfulness

Ketamine-assisted therapy

Ketamine is a dissociative anesthetic medication that, when paired with therapy, improves individuals’ emotional challenges.

Our ketamine-assisted talk therapy offers a guided, personalized approach for individuals interested in deepening their psychological understanding of themselves. Patients meet in advance of the session with Dr. Kass and then work together afterward to make meaning of the experience.

Please note: Not available for adolescents.

Our whole person approach

Collaboratively designed to help you make real progress.

While our services are flexible to support your growth and healing, we’re steadfast in how we show up for our patients each and every time.

Relational

Our relationship-centered approach meets you as a whole person — not just one symptom on a list — ensuring you feel heard and supported at every step.

Collaborative

Our patient-provider relationship is unwaveringly collaborative, helping you gather tools and strategies while recognizing you as the ultimate guide in your journey.

Holistic

We believe that mental health is inextricable from every other part of you. To us, holistic means considering and caring for every part of you — mind, body, and spirit.

Pricing and insurance

We believe that effective, individualized treatment depends on collaborative conversations and a flexible model of care.

Because insurance companies hold psychiatrists to rigid, brief, and infrequent appointments, we’re intentionally out-of-network.

Frequently asked questions

Can you see people who aren’t in California?

No. Because Dr. Kass is licensed in California, patients must be physically located in California at the time of care.

Do you always prescribe medications?

No. Medication is one treatment option, but it’s never required. Some patients chose to incorporate it into their care, while others focus on therapy, lifestyle changes, and mindfulness. You are the leader of your own mental and emotional psyche. We’ll talk through what feels right for you.

Can I see you if I’m not taking medication or not interested in taking medication?

Yes, absolutely. Many patients come specifically for therapy, deeper self-insight, and holistic support. Medication can be part of this work, but it doesn’t have to be.

Do you offer medication management only?

Yes. For patients already working with a therapist, we offer medication-focused appointments and collaborate with your therapist as needed to make sure your care is aligned.

Can I start ketamine treatment as a new patient?

Yes, but not immediately. All patients begin with a comprehensive intake and several preparation sessions before moving into ketamine work. This is to ensure your safety during the session and create the best opportunity for you to gain valuable insight and healing.

Why is your approach to ketamine therapy different from other practices?

Many ketamine clinics operate within a medical model, focused primarily on administering the medication. At Aspen Grove, we use ketamine as part of the broader therapeutic process. Our process includes: preparation sessions, a guided experience with your provider present, and integration sessions to help you process what emerges.

Do you offer psychedelic therapy with medicines other than ketamine?

No. Ketamine is the only FDA-approved medicine for psychedelic therapy, so we do not offer therapy with other medicines. If a patient has had a psychedelic experience outside of our care and wants to make meaning of the journey, we’re happy to support the integration of psychedelic experiences during appointments.

Do you take insurance?

No, we are an out-of-network practice. This allows us to offer longer, more personalized appointments and more flexible care. We’re happy to provide superbills for potential reimbursement.

Do you offer sliding scale appointments?

Yes. We’re happy to discuss rate adjustments with you during your initial consultation call.
